A Rosyth councillor has submitted a motion to be
debated at the next South West Fife Area Committee on 4th May on the issue of
the seven decommissioned nuclear powered submarines stored at Rosyth.
The aim of the motion would be see a “once in a generation” referendum being held in Rosyth and North Queensferry to gauge the public’s view on the subject of the future of the seven old nuclear submarines and how they can be disposed of safely
Bill Walker, SNP
Candidate for the Dunfermline Constituency in the May election, has poured
scorn on the Tory Candidate, James Reekie, concerning his sheer lack of
knowledge and understanding of the issues surrounding the seven vessels tied up
in the Main Dock and the on-shore storage of Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) in
the "AWAF" store.
Dunfermline and Cowdenbeath SNP candidates Bill
Walker and Ian Chisholm have visited the Rosyth offices of senior MoD
scientific staff to ask serious questions on the AWAF intermediate and low
level radioactive waste storage facility in the Dockyard. Both candidates are
also local Councillors who have been critical of MoD proposals to dismantle
parts of the ageing submarine hulls lying in the inner harbour.
